"Kingdom People"

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Col. 1:13-14). This says so much about us as Christians. Jesus delivered us, redeemed us, and forgave us. Jesus transferred us from the kingdom of darkness to His kingdom. We are Kingdom people because we now belong to King Jesus. Do you ever consider yourself as a person of the Kingdom of God? What exactly does it mean to be Kingdom people?

Being Kingdom people means our allegiance is to God over and above everything else. We live in this world, at least for a little while, but we do not belong to the kingdom of this world. We belong to the creator of this world and our lives should show it. Kingdom people are to be different from the world. The temptation is to blend in wherever you are so that you don’t stick out. Kingdom people will stand out because we are not to be like the world.

Read the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapters 5-7 where Jesus addresses Kingdom people. In His sermon, Jesus speaks of the beatitudes which are attitudes every Christian should possess. Jesus says things like we are the salt and light of the world. Jesus cautions His Kingdom people about anger, lust, divorce, and worry, just to name a few. If we adhere to the teachings of Jesus, we will stand out as a people who live not according to the kingdom of this world but as members of the spiritual Kingdom of our Lord. It is most important that we understand that even though we live in this world, as Christians, we are occupants of God’s Kingdom. If we truly live as Kingdom people, it will change the way we think, act, and how we view everything and everyone.
