"Don't Forget Why Jesus Came"

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45) In this one verse Jesus shares the purpose of His coming to earth. Jesus came to give His life as a ransom for our sins. His whole mission was redemptive. It was about spilling His blood on the cross to provide a way to heaven through forgiveness. Jesus said, “for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:28)

It’s amazing to know God loves us so much that He would send His Son to die for an imperfect, sin-addicted people. “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8). Jesus’ redemptive mission to earth was the most significant and simplistic plan. It’s significant in that it saves our souls from eternal condemnation. The simplicity of God’s redemptive plan only adds to its beauty as mankind can comprehend the only way of salvation.

The entire story of Jesus from His birth, life, and ministry to His death at Calvary screams redemption. His story is about our forgiveness. His story is about bridging the gap between a Holy God and sinful humans. May we never forget why Jesus came and may we, the church, see all things through the lens of redemption.
