"A Nation In Crisis"

September 24, 2020 | By Chuck

For the better part of 2020 we’ve been dealing with the Corona virus pandemic. From staying home to being lost in the grocery store because our essentials are nowhere to be found. Social distancing is a new term I’ve never used until this year, much less practiced, but we all are now. Masks have become our new normal. In fact, it’s abnormal to see someone in public without a mask. If that’s not enough to deal with, we’ve also had to navigate the waters of racial tensions that are at an extreme high. Oh, and I can’t leave out the ever important looming election that is a little over a month away.
We have a country full of differing opinions on each of these issues. We’re a divided country on seemingly everything. I don’t pretend to have all of the answers, but one thing I know for sure is that we are a nation in crisis. Our nation’s crisis runs deeper than Covid-19, racial issues and political controversies. We are a nation in crisis because of what we’ve forsaken and what we’ve embraced. We have forsaken righteousness and embraced sin. We as a nation have turned our back on God and enthusiastically embraced the filth of sin.
The truth of the matter is this; we don’t even refer to sin as sin or wrongdoing. Have we become a god to ourselves, where anything goes and nothing is wrong or off limits? Due to our exaltation of sin and constant denial of God, are we as a nation reaping what we’ve sown? “For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life”(Gal.6:8). We are sowing to please the flesh and all around us we see corruption. I pray that our nation will stop dividing and fighting with one another and unite to be “one nation under God”.
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people”(Prov.14:34).
