"Don't Destroy The Work Of God"

We have an enemy that is doing all he can to destroy the work of God. Satan wants nothing more than to hurt the Lord’s church and hinder God’s work and will even use Christians to accomplish that goal. Satan loves it when churches have issues and members are fighting with one another. When we are debating and arguing with one another we are not doing the work of God. Satan loves it when churches split because they can’t agree on things. A church that is in the process of a split is not doing the work of God. They are too busy trying to define their opinions and position on the matter and why it is necessary for the church split to occur.
Christians will always have different opinions and there will continue to be disagreements over ideas, but we must not destroy the work of God. Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God”(Rom.14:20). The more spiritually mature Christians knew that they could eat anything, but those younger in the faith believed they shouldn’t eat food that had been sacrificed to an idol. Paul’s point is just because it’s okay to eat any food, don’t do anything that will destroy the work of God. Acts 15:36-41 is a text that records a famous and strong disagreement between Paul and Barnabas. They so strongly disagreed that they chose other partners and went in opposite directions.
The main point we need to take from this story in Scripture is that Paul and Barnabas didn’t destroy the work of God. Yes, they disagreed and went their separate ways but they did so continuing the work of God. “And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches”(Acts 15:41). Christians today must learn from the example of Paul and Barnabas that a disagreement is never worth destroying the work of God. Even when our opinions are at odds and our ideas don’t match, let us never, no matter what the argument is, destroy the work of God.
