"Be Still"

August 29, 2019 | By Chuck

When our kids were little I remember thinking if I could just get them to be still. I always felt bad for Kristy on Sunday because I wasn’t with her in the pew as she tried to get our little ones to be still and quiet. Maybe you’re there now and understand the struggle it is to get your child to be still at times. Well, I still want my kids to be still. It’s different now, of course, but as busy as our lives are and as hectic as it can be, there are times I wish they’d slow down and even be still for a minute. Sometimes I wonder if God feels the same way about us, His children. Does God ever want us to slow down and be still?
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth”(Psalm 46:10)! I think sometimes we need to slow our crazy busy lives down and remember God. There’s no doubt that this world provides plenty of obstacles that can and will distract us from God. We can get so caught up in our daily schedules that God can easily become an afterthought until Sunday. Be still and focus on knowing and exalting God every day. The thought of a still and quiet existence knowing God very much appeals to me. Be busy, but don’t be too busy to be still and know God.
